Description

TYPE OF POSITION: Licensed Practical Nurse Full-Time; Seekonk Public Schools Licensed Practical Nurse. The daily work hours may vary based on student and program needs and to accommodate job placements and community events. 

 

HOURLY RATE: $33.00 per hour

 

LOCATION: Seekonk Transitions Academy at Seekonk High School, 261 Arcade Avenue, Seekonk, MA 02771 and other schools in the district, as needed.

REPORTS TO:  Director of Student Services and Building Principals 

 

Provide primary and emergency health care to students and staff. Provide nursing services on transportation as needed. This includes direct and indirect nursing care, health maintenance, teaching, counseling, guidance and collaborative planning as supervised by the School Nurse.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:

 

  1. Applicant must possess a current, valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse License issued by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
  2. Pediatric and or school nursing experience a plus
  3. Ability to work well with students, staff and members of the Seekonk community

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:

  1. Per the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, the LPN participates in analyzing and interpreting student/staff health data and makes informed judgments for specific elements of nursing care mandated by a particular situation.
  2. For students who require nurse transportation support, may need to supervise student(s) riding on school transportation with student to and from school (school transportation provided by the District or outside vendor). May be assigned to support specific in-district student(s) depending on individual medical needs
  3. Assists students, parents, and staff with complex health care needs (i.e. diabetes, asthma, allergies) to deliver appropriate nursing care as prescribed by the medical provider and as supervised by the School Nurse.
  4. Administers medication during the school day as prescribed by medical providers and per Massachusetts law 105 CMR 210 (1) under the general supervision of the school nurse-RN who has delegating authority.
  5. Implements nursing interventions per prescribed medical regimen and includes appropriate health care components in plan of nursing care for students/staff.
  6. Provide first aid and emergency care in injury or illness to school population.
  7. Notify parents of illness and accidents, which occur during school hours and complete accidents forms
  8. Maintain electronic records for each student/staff encounter.
  9. Assists school nurse in screenings as needed.
  10. Assists the School Nurse in the prevention and control of communicable diseases including educating students, families and staff on infection control measures, disease surveillance in the school population, electronic recording of immunizations and illness.
  11. Inform teachers and staff regarding medical issues that may affect them
  12. Act as a health resource person, have knowledge of community resources, and appropriate referrals
  13. Assist in maintaining equipment and supplies
  14. Maintains confidentiality
  15. Performs skilled nursing procedures in a safe, competent and effective manner.
  16. Treatments may include g-tube feedings, feeding suctioning, positioning, toileting, range of motion exercises as collaborated with staff
  17. Observes health regulations, policies and procedures of the school district, Department of public Health and Department of Education.
  18. Other duties as assigned
