TYPE OF POSITION:    Full time (1.0); 2024-2025 school year; salary commensurate with experience and education as set forth in the agreement between the School Committee of the Town of Seekonk and Local 1701, State Council 93, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO

LOCATION:      George R. Martin Elementary School

REPORTS TO:  Principal/Assistant Principal and/or Immediate Teacher

PAY RANGE: $19.27 to $24.89, depending on education and experience

 

The STARS Elementary Instructional Aide works under the direction of the Principal/Assistant Principal, School Psychologist and classroom teacher to assist with the delivery of services. This includes both special education and related services as specified in the IEP. This individual will service only students in the STARS Elementary Program. The STARS Elementary Instructional Aide assists teachers and/or building principals in the supervision of students in the classroom during instructional periods and throughout the school environment as designated by the principal or teacher. The STARS Elementary Instructional Aides may be required to assist students who have special needs with activities of daily living, such as feeding, toileting, and dressing

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:

  1. Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree, or 60 credits form an accredited College or University and/or passing score on Paraprofessional exam.
  2. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with children and adults.
  3. Ability to develop positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and staff.
  4. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds as needed.
  5. Knowledge and training in the implementation of continuous performance of positive reinforcement with students.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to adapt to the needs of a changing student population with a variety of challenges and address their social and emotional needs.
  7. Demonstrate flexibility, and the ability to be independent and self-directed within supervised tasks.
  8. Ability to use technology to enhance instructional and professional responsibilities.
  9. Attend PD offered by the district.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:

  1. Under the supervision of a certified teacher, prepares for classroom activities.
  2. Works individually or in small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
  3. Assists the general educator and accepts direction when providing assistance to individual children.
  4. Provides assistance in independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up by the teacher.
  5. Assists teacher in non-instructional classroom duties (e.g. lunch, recess, bus duty, snack, bathroom and clothing routines, etc.).
  6. Assists teacher in activities such as, but not limited to, checking notebooks/planners, correcting papers and supervising testing and make-up work.
  7. Assists in social emotional support and academics.
  8. Assists teacher in preparing class displays/bulletin boards and caring for equipment.
  9. Assists teacher in duties relating to the supervision of playground, cafeteria, bus loading, etc.
  1. Assists with students in music, art, physical education if needed.
  2. Attends in-district training, when appropriate and PD proposed by Principal. (i.e. nonviolent crisis intervention, CPR/First Aid, district training, SEL, PBIS,).
  1. To complete other duties designated by the individual supervisor.
