TITLE:  Paraprofessional Instructional Aide

TYPE OF POSITION: Full time (1.0); 2023-2024 school year; salary commensurate with experience and education as set forth in the agreement between the School Committee of the Town of Seekonk and Local 1701, State Council 93, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO

START DATE: Immediate

LOCATION: Seekonk High School

 

REPORTS TO:  Principal and/or Immediate Teacher

 

The Instructional Aide assists teachers and/or building principals in the supervision of students in the classroom during instructional periods and throughout the school environment as designated by the principal or teacher.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:

  1. Associate’s Degree from an accredited college and/or passing score on Paraprofessional Assessment
  2. Able to respond to the requirements of a physically demanding position
  3. Certification in nonviolent crisis intervention after hire and commitment to keep certification current
  4. Demonstrated ability to adapt to the needs of a changing student population
  5. Experience using technology and data collection to enhance instructional and professional responsibilities

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's Degree from accredited College or University
  2. Experience working with high school-aged students with cognitive and social/emotional challenges
  3. Experience in differentiating instruction
  4. Knowledge and experience with the MCAS Alternative Assessment process
  5. Knowledge of and training in implementation of continuous classroom and individual positive reinforcement systems

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:

  1. Work as a productive member of the instructional team to maximize student outcomes
  2. Assume classroom responsibilities under the supervision of teacher/facilitator
  3. Lead the classroom on a daily basis under the supervision of the assigned teaching team.
  4. Recognize the need for and provide assistance to students in an appropriately active classroom setting
  5. Maintain data collection employing research-based best practice strategies to demonstrate student progress and adjust student goals
  6. May work with students in the community in a variety of transition related domains (employment, post-secondary education, recreation, daily living skills, etc.) and during these activities collect ongoing transitional date
  7. Participate in daily duties, as assigned by teacher(s), between all classrooms located at Seekonk High School
  8. Other student-related assigned responsibilities as needed, including student assistance and inclusion opportunities
  9. Provide support to high school academic concepts to be able to help achieve their academic goals
