TITLE:       Middle School World Language Teacher (Spanish AND Portuguese)

 

TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time (1.0); 2024-2025 school year; salary commensurate with experience and education, as set forth in the agreement between the Seekonk School Department and the Seekonk Educators Association

 

LOCATION: Dr. Kevin M. Hurley Middle School

REPORTS TO:     Building Principal

 

The World Language Teacher provides learning experiences in Foreign Language (Spanish) guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:

  1.     Licensed, or eligible for licensure in World Language (5-12) by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education 
  1.     Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with children and adults.
  1.     Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies.
  2.     Ability to relate well with students, colleagues, parents, and staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:

  1.     Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  2.     Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect accommodation and regulatory compliance regarding the individual needs of students with IEPs or 504 Plans.
  3.     Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives and methods according to the MA Curriculum Frameworks.
  4.     Use appropriate technologies in the teaching/learning process.
  5.     Use formative and summative assessment to inform instruction and improve student achievement.
  6.     Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school.
  7.     Create an environment that is respectful, challenging and responsive to diverse student needs including the physical, social and emotional development of all students.
  8.     Demonstrate sound behavior management practices and administer discipline according to school department policies and administrative regulations.
  9.     Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  10.   Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members.
  11.   Provide direction and monitor the activities of a Teaching Assistant (Paraprofessional), if one is assigned.
  12.   Other duties, as assigned according to the SEA contract.
